It was a festival gig vs. the regular small-stage we use them on regularly. It's good to see level headed people respond without taking it personally as so many do on these threads. I ended up with a set of srx835p and they continue to impress. Its a step above both, basically budget Fulcrum. My observation is the same as yours, they sound bigger and open up the more you move away. The IQ12's just make us nervous when those limiters kick in constantly. QSC !!!! Good luck all. Then started hearing about the JBL SRX835 3 ways so I sold my SRX815'S and my QSCKW153'S and purchased those! The KW153 is MUCH more articulate while the PRX725 would be much better for a heavy metal band or EDM DJ music (IMO). They are super loud! Recognizing that your original question was between JBL and QSC, have you considered the Presonus Studiolive PA line? JBL are cheaply built and have a lousy warranty. Best of luck. Paired with the srx828 the sound phenomenal. Bought some K12s to replace my aging Barbettas years ago. Kept my QSC KW181'S though. Super powerful! Hey there! Do it once the right way for venue safety and insurance liability. Hey Jer77od, Glad you are reading my posts, and admittedly I have done exactly what you claim, however what I write { copy and pasted on those sites for ease } is exactly how I feel. I've had both and upgraded, yes I said upgraded to the JBL SRX 800 series! after reading the specs decided to sell two of my Yamahas and grab a used pair of the SRX812'S. If you know you will only ever have 1 top at this venue, the a 75 degree platform gets you better coverage. Festivals don’t require I bring my rig, but Wineries, Yacht Club Parties, smaller out door gigs, and I drive them with the audio outputted to them, doesn’t mean I’m cranking the speakers for better results, after all they’re not RCFs. Buy the used QSC's and use the $1000 saved to have someone professionally fly them using the correct rigging bolts and fly ware. I am a working professional musician for 30 years and don't want people to experience what I did. The SRX system is the second best sounding system. Each JBL SRX835P pushes 2000 watts peak power through a 15" woofer with dedicated midrange and HF horns. Warranty on everything. clarity unsurpassed! I would buy new, cause you still save money and get a 6 year !! Loved the sound and still do! Nothing compares the EAWs, they are flat out better than any of the other speakers we have however, not practical for typical weekend warrior sound jobs because of weight and the required power. I had planned on getting the new JBL SRX800 stuff with 2 JBL SRX835P's flown horizontally above the stage and a SRX828SP dual 18" sub under the stage, a few eon 10's or 12's for monitors, and a XR18 mixer. Thank goodness John accidentally quoted his own post, or we might have missed a set of MI grade speakers being flown in a manner not approved by IATSE! KW Series is powerful, especially if you incorporate the KW 181s. Loved the sound so much that I sold my QSC KW152'S which i really wasn't using and bought two more! The IQ system is just underpowered, push them and the limiters kick in real quick, leaves us always wanting more. KW152'S KW153'S and KW181'S. A working band cannot afford that. Not necessarily - I was using my KLA's for over a year before I pushed them hard enough to find a flaw in the 12" diaphragm on one of them. It does not get the "ice pick" highs/trebles at high volumes like the PRX735 did. I like them both, but I prefer the JBL indoors, and QSC and EV outdoors. Hi John, I respectfully have to disagree. I have had absolutely no issues at all. I speak of the KW 153s. Then JBL came out with the SRX800 series! Oddly the IQ18 subs are made with baltic birch but the IQ12's are molded plastic which I can't stand. I owned all QSC Powered Speakers! I have yet to run the SRX835'S and the SRX828SP sub but I know when I do there will be no problem handling the job! For small gigs the Turbosound NuQ series is a really nice solution. The KW153 is very crisp and precise while the SRX835P is "smoother and warmer" sounding and can maintain at high(er) volumes. If you might be wanting to add another top each side later, then the 60 degree is what you will want as it will minimize comb filtering. they still kill it for bass! I DO NOT trust JBL quality after my experience with the 735s { I know the original post is about the 835s } but an excellent service center that worked with JBLs to fix my 735s opened them up and showed me the cheapest parts, which is why the entire housing was buzzing on both cabs. I agree totally. John. But, I just came across a used set of QSC kw153's or JBL PRX725's for $1800 and it's got me scratching my head. QSCs sound so much better and so quiet after a year of gigs. There is a line-in-the-sand that can be called “capability” or “limitation” but it’s the same line. QSC are tanks and sound much better. KW Series is powerful, especially if you incorporate the KW 181s. Returned them for a pretty big loss, but very very happy now !! The OP said something that nobody picked up on, unless I completely missed it. When you buy products through links across our site, we may earn an affiliate commission.
